Tackle Love Together at a Rugby Match

Brace yourselves for an electrifying clash of titans as two rugby juggernauts collide on this exciting date. Enjoy the small-town feel and the outdoors to boot!

The Background

Old Glory DC is the city’s official professional rugby team with six seasons under its belt. Though the club was founded in 2018, but don’t let their age fool you. This group of athletes is mighty. Old Glory has already competed in the Championship Series playoff and Eastern Conference Championship.

You’ll watch this enthralling sport at the team’s home – the Maryland SoccerPlex. You’re in for a treat, whether you sit in one of the 3,200 fixed seats or on the grass. Grab a drink at the new beer garden as you immerse yourself in true rugby culture. Enjoy a game of “rugger,” as the English say.

The Standout Features

Here’s just some reasons this date scores major points:

  • Perfect Timing: Typical professional sport events are long – often three hours or more. With 90 minutes of play, rugby matches are the ideal duration no matter if it’s the first or 50th date.
  • Embrace Novelty: It’s refreshing to engage in a new pastime. Figuring out the rules together or marveling at two men being thrown into the air makes this date a lively, memorable experience.
  • Intimate Setting: Whether it’s a romantic picnic behind the field goal or welcomed into a small town, this game is surprisingly personal. Add in the fun of watching and you’ve got a winning combo.
  • Price: A pro sports game for $25 is a steal for you and your wallet.

The Experience

Date Lead Up - Surveying the Field

We pass several soccer fields before we reach a large building on top of the hill. After we park in the expansive lot, we follow the curve of the outdoor stadium fence towards the right, moving away from the building. Soon, we get to a small outpost where you can buy same-day tickets. At the entrance around the corner, we scan our tickets. Then, we head inside.

The first thing I see is the quaint Beer Garden filled with cornhole and pop-up food vendors. My date grabs a burger while I spring for popcorn and peanut M&Ms. Once we’re loaded up with goodies, we go grab seats. While we watch the players warm up, I’m surprised how close we are to the action. As they practice, I’m shocked to spot people picnicking on the grass right behind the field goal. I make a mental note to picnic at our next rugby game.

Date Main Event - Game Time

After the Star-Spangled Banner, the game begins. I’m immediately fascinated by this hybrid of soccer, American football, wrestling, and gymnastics. Our team is playing the RFC Los Angeles. Before too long, our boys rack up the points.

Over time, we pick up the rules by following how the fans react. Then, a man in the stand yells “Old Glory” and the rest shoot back “DC!” We happily join in the chants, delighting in the novelty of this new athletic escapade. During the 10-minute halftime, kids try to complete rugby-related challenges for fabulous prizes. Everyone cheers for them.

Date Wrap Up - The Final Play

I’m on the edge of my seat as the teams fight to pull ahead. When time runs out, the score’s a tie. Soon, the crowd trickles out of the stadium. Friends wave goodbye before getting in their cars. It’s 6:38 pm. With the entire night ahead, we’re excited to continue our lovely evening.
