The Experience
Date Lead Up - Strapping In
After parking, we walk to the tent, starting from the quaint Any Day Now corner restaurant. On our right, we spot the entrance. When I step over the threshold, I’m transported to a new world. The trapeze station dominates the room, commanding all the attention. Next, we check in at a table to our immediate left. As we do, we explain it’s our first time doing anything like this. The staff are excited for us, thrilled that soon we’ll understand the indescribable freedom of flying.
Once we’re set, we get into our harnesses while reviewing the class plan. Now, be sure to trust the skilled instructors. When they say jump, for example, jump. It’s natural to hesitate, but if you follow their advice, you’ll tackle the bar with ease. Several teachers spent years as circus performers. You’re in excellent hands.
Date Main Event - Take the Leap
After a handful of students jump, it’s my turn. I hook myself to a rope line and climb the ladder to the platform. When I reach the top, the staff member adjusts my hooks and asks me to put my toes on the edge. He holds me by the back of my shirt and invites me to grab the bar in front of me with one hand. They’ve got you. Have full confidence in that.
When I grip the bar, it’s heavier than I imagined. The weight pulls me forward a bit, but I’m not going anywhere. Then, the instructor tells me I’ll bend my knees, jump, and clutch the bar with both hands. When it’s time, I take the leap without thinking.
As my feet leave the ledge, I feel the kind of lightness that only comes from letting go. Moving through the air reminds me of being on a swing as a kid. Sprinkled amidst the adrenaline, I experience a deep sense of peace.
While mobile, I listen to more instructions. Before I know it, I’m floating back down to Earth and gently land on the net. While I’m unhooking myself, my partner says I looked great out there. I beam at the encouragement.
Next, it’s his turn, and I support him just the same. I’m proud of him going out of his comfort zone. We each get several chances to be aerial performers.

When the session ends, we savor our new accomplishment. With so many class options, we’ll be back soon. In the meantime, we’ve worked up an appetite and are ready for our victory meal.
