The Experience
Date Lead Up - Starting the Stretch
I pull up to the charming farmhouse nestled in the quaint town of Frankford, Delaware. After parking in the dirt lot, we exit the car and stroll into a large fenced-in area. We’re early but shortly after, others join. Immediately, I hear their excited whispers as they look around for the red kangaroos. No one can believe they’re about to meet these little marsupials. The anticipation among the crowd is electric, and you can’t help but feel it, too.
Then, I spot our instructor by a table towards the back. We walk over, check in, sign our waivers, and pick our places. The roos move throughout the class so there’s no bad location. The welcome breeze hits us as we roll out our yoga mats from home. It’s refreshing to be away from the city. I needed this. Right before the course begins, our teacher shares tips on interacting with the animals. Finally, she lays out bowls of carrots and lettuce in front of us for them to eat.
Date Main Event - The Core Practice (Asana)
Then, my heart bursts out of my chest as five to six creatures hop towards us. They are even more adorable than I expected. Once they’re all inside the gate, the instructor starts the class. If you’re like me, it’s a genuine struggle to focus on your yoga poses. How can I concentrate when there’s a little joey in front of me snacking away? When I reach out to pet one, I’m surprised by their softness. As the course goes on, I melt more and more.
After yoga ends, everyone has their phones out. I’m in a straight up kangaroo photoshoot. The kangaroos are so polite when we play together. I’m enjoying every minute. All they want is some love, attention, and carrots, of course.
Date Wrap Up - Cool Down Time (Savasana)
We must eventually bid farewell to our newfound friends. It’s a tough moment when they bounce away. I buy a black kangaroo yoga tank top from their gift shop, which cushions the blow. The shirt is a lovely memento and the proceeds support animal conservation. I encourage you to peruse the selection.
Before we leave, we visit the small habitats between the farmhouse and our yoga spot. It’s an unexpected treat to see more wildlife. Now, we have big smiles on as we pack up our mats, water bottles, and kangaroo swag. When we drive off, we agree this was a truly uplifting experience that stretched beyond the mat.
The Planning
No need to figure out all the logistics. We did it for you.
